{"id":156,"date":"2012-08-15T22:45:11","date_gmt":"2012-08-16T02:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.fritzhardy.com\/?p=156"},"modified":"2013-09-25T04:42:13","modified_gmt":"2013-09-25T08:42:13","slug":"fedora-upgrade-f16-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.fritzhardy.com\/?p=156","title":{"rendered":"Fedora Upgrade: F16 -> F17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest in my <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.fritzhardy.com\/?p=27\">upgrade streak<\/a> to Fedora 17 a couple of weeks ago was relatively painless.  Since this Fedora includes the <a href=\"http:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/wiki\/Features\/UsrMove\">\/usr<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedesktop.org\/wiki\/Software\/systemd\/TheCaseForTheUsrMerge\">merge<\/a>, and even the <a href=\"http:\/\/fedoraproject.org\/wiki\/Upgrading_Fedora_using_yum\">yum upgrade<\/a> proponents specifically recommend not upgrading with yum for this version, I went ahead and did it the old fashioned way with DVD and anaconda.  The only obstacle was an <a href=\"https:\/\/bugzilla.redhat.com\/show_bug.cgi?id=826492\">anaconda bug<\/a> that was easily worked around by commenting out my separate \/home mount (and swap) from \/etc\/fstab.  Post-upgrade, a thousand or more updates, and voila a fully-updated Fedora 17.<\/p>\n<p>On to X and my four monitors.  Whereas with my <a href=\"?p=141\">upgrade to Fedora 16<\/a> I was able to get Xinerama up on the nouveau driver across all three cards\/four screens, here my dual-head NV44A Geforce 6200 AGP card would not cooperate.  The resolution on the second head would never set right and it was stuck in clone mode.  A brief foray with the <a href=\"http:\/\/rpmfusion.org\/Howto\/nVidia\/\">RPM Fusion kmod-nvidia-173xx driver<\/a> seemed more trouble than it was worth, so it was back to nouveau with Xinerama off.  I do not really miss it, and I was having some performance issues that may have been Xinerama-related in Fedora 16 anyway.
